Resumé Assessments
We all know a killer resumé is a key to getting in front OF the right hiring managers. But all too often, our best efforts fall short and end up in the reader’s “out” bin within the first 10 seconds, WELL before you get THE CHANCE to shine in person. What happened?
The making of a great resume includes the following criteria: A clean, easy to read, succinct format. Unless you have an extraordinary number of certifications and awards to list that are applicable to your targeted employer, keep to two pages.
Brief but informative and relevant. Don’t list every single job you ever had unless they are all relevant to the position you are seeking. No one cares that you worked as a waiter in 1992. That being said, make sure you are always able to account for any gaps in your employment history.
Accomplishments have to make you shine. Show your highlighted honors, awards and accomplishments with real numbers and comparisons to your internal competition so your readers can see how significant your achievements have been in prior or current positions.
Skip personal information such as married with kids. This could limit your suitability should the job you are applying for require travel in the future.
